State and Federal agencies have pooled their funds to purchase high resolution, natural color imagery for all of California. Images will be acquired this summer and the results will be in our hands in the spring of 2006. This imagery will be in the public domain so that it can be shared and used by all.
Partners and sponsors include California's Chief Information Officer, U.S. Department of Agriculture - Farm Service Agency, USDA - Natural Resources Conservation Service, U. S. Forest Service, United States Geological Survey, California Resources Agency (CERES), California Energy Commission, Caltrans, Coastal Conservancy, Department of Water Resources, Department of Conservation, Department of General Services, and a number of other agencies that offered funding.

- The Office of Emergency Services to for emergency response
- The Office of Homeland Security to improve homeland security
- The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection for response to wildland fires
- The Department of Water Resources for flood protection
- The Department of Fish and Game to conserve our state's biological diversity
- CalEPA to monitor and improve environmental quality
- Caltrans to help plan and manage our state's transportation infrastructure
- Health and Human Services Agency to locate critical health services
- local government to better plan land use
- and many other government organizations to improve the quality and effectiveness of their services
The firm that got the contract to fly California to acquire this imagery is North West Geomatics (www.nwgeo.com).
